We launched the first version of Root Down Rise Up for self-identified young women age 14-18 in January 2017. For one weekend a month for six months, the girls of the inaugural cohort came together and: ...stretched their comfort zones, practiced vulnerability and courage, laughed until they cried, and cried until they laughed, sang songs and played silly games, explored the painful and hopeful realities of the current global moment, and created a supportive community of women... |

2018: Rooting Down
After that successful pilot program, we are now pausing to reflect on our experience and take our next steps with thoughtful intention. Our energy is currently focused on building our community of support and developing a clear vision for meeting our program goals while ensuring financial viability.
We believe that this work is most effective when it is supported and informed by our larger community, which is why building relationships is a current primary focus. Mutually beneficial partnerships and collaborations with local schools, nonprofits, and businesses, as well as with young people and other individuals, will allow us to better meet the needs of the youth we serve.
We recently convened our the first meetings of our Wisdom Council, a Portland-based group of thoughtful, skilled individuals that includes school counselors and administrators, entrepreneurs, mental health therapists, community activists, life coaches, university professors, environmental educators, and youth. These dynamic and passionate human beings are gathering with us around the central vision of the program and collaborating to lay the necessary groundwork upon which we will build our future programming.
Make sure to get on our contact list for more updates and visit our support page to get involved!

Location: Jean's Urban Forest Farm
We are thrilled to be partnered with The Institute of Permaculture Education for Children (IPEC) and Jean's Urban Farm! Jean's Farm is a forested permaculture haven located right in SE Portland off of Johnson Creek Boulevard. Right in the middle of an average PDX neighborhood, a long, winding driveway takes you down to a thriving permaculture/organic farm--complete with an outdoor kitchen, cob oven, yurt, chicken coop, bee hives, and more!
