***Exciting March, 2020 Update**
Welcome, friends!
I'm Emily Zionts, the co-founder and current director/facilitator of Root Down Rise Up.
In light of the global disruption that Covid-19 is causing, it feels that this "work" is needed now--maybe more than ever. I am hearing that call from young people who are grieving the loss of community from their normal lives, who are struggling with navigating the massive emotions that this upheaval is putting them through, and who long to connect with others who are going through the same things in authentic and even joyful ways.
*NOW* is the time to bring this work to a virtual format.
I am deeply grateful to feel that I am uniquely equipped to be of service in this way. Yes, an online version will be profoundly different than when we met at a yurt on an urban permaculture farm! Yes, it will be challenging to translate this rich and eclectic program to an online format and yes, these times are only widening what was already a heartbreaking digital divide.
This will be imperfectly perfect, as the best things tend to be.
In some ways, I feel like I was made for this moment. All of the 15+ years educating young people through adults for self awareness, social justice, community building, and sustainability have given me the tools for holding space and mentoring young people, even at a distance.
It excites me to think of the ways Root Down can support parents through this time, also! Stay tuned for a growing vision of a parent group, too.
Feel free to peruse the website. Know that I although I haven't updated it for the online version, this is the heart of the program.
How often will we meet?
Twice a week for 1.5 hours is the current thought.
Who can join?
Young people who feel that being female is part of their lived experience (aka trans, gender queer, gender questioning, and other identities welcomed)
What age group will be participating
I encourage anyone ages 13-20 to apply. Depending on interest we will break into different cohorts for those closer in age.
Where will this be?
In an online platform with participants from all over the country ideally
How much will it cost?
We don't know yet! There is much still to be worked out.
But, don't let that stop you from contacting us through the email address below and asking ALL your questions.
I will keep you updated with all of the pertinent information as it unfolds. Expect to hear from me within a week!
Take care of yourself and each other. Be safe, stay grounded. I look forward to hearing from you!
Love, Emily

“I'm more aware of the negative stories I tell myself, and how they aren't necessarily truth. I am also more patient with myself when I'm having a hard time, experiencing anxiety, or not doing something in the way I envisioned it. I try to forgive myself more often and tell myself I'm doing my best.” -2017 Participant |
